INTRODUCTORY CLASSES AT WYOU:

WYOU regularly offers training in learning to use our cameras and editing equipment for WYOU members. For more information or to sign up for a a class, please contact us by phone at (608)258-9644.

Classes are offered to all WYOU members, though the space in the classes is limited. People who are not members but are interested in taking classes can attend an orientation for free, but would need to become members before enrolling in a class. Classes will fill up on a 'first pay, first serve basis -- that is, one must pay for the class to reserve his or her spot before the class limit is reached. All classes are held at the WYOU station at 1202 Williamson Street, Suite 101, Madison, Wisconsin.

ORIENTATION:
Call (free) -- WYOU invites the members of the public to attend free orientation sessions held each month at the station. Orientations are designed to introduce people to WYOU its staff, facilities, and programs and provide attendees to ask questions about how they might become more involved with the station. Orientations are led by WYOU Staff.

WYOU has a small stock of highly capable cameras available for checkout to certified producers. This one-session class covers technical basics of operating Canon DV cameras as well as some aesthetic aspects of shot composition. The course also serves to certify producers to use the cameras on their own projects for WYOU. Class sizes are small for more personal instruction.

EDITING:

Final Cut
INTRO TO EDITING WITH MAC's FINAL CUT PRO:
5:30-8:30pm

This is a one-session class on using Apple's Final Cut Pro software. WYOU has an editing lab that's open 1-8pm M-Th and 1-6pm on Fridays and 1p-7p on most Saturdays. The lab features 3 Macintosh stations with Final Cut Pro software found in many professional video operations. This class is a hands-on introduction to the software and many of its features which aims to acquaint students with the software and provide them resources for learning to use the program in more depth after the class. The class also serves to certify producers to use the editing equipment on their own projects for WYOU. Class sizes are small for more personal instruction.

INTRO TO GREENSCREEN:
6-8pm
(1-session course -- $45)
Chroma key compositing (or chroma keying) is a technique for compositing two images or frames together in which a color (or a small color range) from one image is removed (or made transparent), revealing another image behind it. This technique is also referred to as color keying, greenscreen, and bluescreen.
Learn to use chroma keying in your video work in this informative class. Size limit: 6

TITLING 101:
6-8pm
(1-session course -- $45)
Easily learn to use Apple's LiveType to spice up your titles, credits, lower thirds and more! This tutorial will introduce you to the library of backgrounds and animated fonts available within LiveType. We'll then take these component pieces and put them together within Final Cut Pro to make truly professional-level credits and titles.

STUDIO MICROPHONES 101:
6-8pm
(1-session course -- $45)
Become familiar with and learn to properly use the wide variety of microphones available at the WYOU studio in your video work. From hand-helds, lavalieres, and shotguns, to boom poles, phantom power, gain, EQ, and feedback. MMMM...Feedback.

COLOR CORRECTION:
6-8pm
(1-session course -- $45)
From our manual camera controller units in our control room to light settings on our checkout Canon GL1 cameras, there are many ways to go right and wrong. Learn to get good color the first time in this tutorial of this equipment. Then Learn to use post-production techniques in Final Cut Pro to get your recorded color (good OR bad) to truly professional (or, at least acceptable) balance.

MOBILE MIXING 101:
6-8pm
(1-session course -- $45)
Learn to use our mobile mixing unit (available for checkout ONLY to certified producers) to produce real-time mixes with multiple cameras. Mix rockin' band concerts, nerdy lectures, or exciting sporting events all in real-time, cutting the need for post-production beyond adding titles.
